R&B singer Chris Brown has initiated a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment, alleging that the 2024 documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence falsely portrays him as a "serial rapist and sexual abuser."
The documentary revisits several past allegations against Brown, including a dismissed 2020 lawsuit where a Jane Doe accused him of drugging and assaulting her at a party on Sean "Diddy" Combs's yacht. It also highlights his 2009 felony assault conviction involving then-girlfriend Rihanna, among other incidents.
Brown's lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, contends that the documentary disseminates false information, causing significant harm to his reputation and emotional well-being. His legal team asserts that, despite being provided with evidence disproving the claims, the producers proceeded with the defamatory content.
Warner Bros. Discovery has responded, stating their intention to "vigorously defend" the production.
Despite the controversies, Brown remains a prominent figure in the music industry, boasting 144 million Instagram followers and releasing his 11th studio album, 11:11, in November 2023.
