Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Sidelined for Season Due to Shoulder Blood Clot

San Antonio Spurs' standout center, Victor Wembanyama, will miss the remainder of the NBA season after being diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right shoulder. This condition, identified following the All-Star weekend, involves a blood clot in a deep vein and is uncommon among young athletes.

The 21-year-old French sensation has been a pivotal figure for the Spurs, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and leading the league with 3.8 blocks per game over 46 appearances this season. His impressive performances earned him his first NBA All-Star selection in January 2025.

Wembanyama's absence is a significant blow to the Spurs, who currently hold a 23-29 record, placing them 12th in the Western Conference. His early departure also renders him ineligible for end-of-season awards, as he falls short of the NBA's 65-game participation requirement.

Historically, athletes like Brandon Ingram and Ausar Thompson have successfully returned to their sports after similar diagnoses, while others, such as Chris Bosh, faced more challenging recoveries. The Spurs organization remains optimistic about Wembanyama's full recovery and anticipates his return for the next season.

The basketball community has rallied around Wembanyama, with teammates, fellow players, and fans expressing their support and well-wishes for his health and swift return to the court
